Ulmstead began its swim team in the Magothy River, where a few brave children would swim from the dock to a raft out in the river. Make-shift lanes were made from rope tied between the dock and the raft.
When the safety of the swimmers became an issue, 75 families made a tremendous financial commitment to build a pool. When this task was accomplished, the Ulmstead Pool Board asked Marilyn Blandford to organize a swim team. With no extra funds available, Marilyn was concerned with how this might be accomplished. The topic arose at a neighborhood party one evening. A newcomer, Don Treacy, volunteered to coach a team. Thus began the Ulmstead Swim Team as we know it at the Ulmstead Pool!
Our Ulmstead Ducks are part of the Greater Annapolis Swim League (GASL), are coached by the fabulous Colleen Winans and Trevor Brinton, and run by a fabulous team of volunteers who are available to answer your questions or concerns.
We are so grateful to our sponsors for the upcoming season. Their support helps us keep our registration fees to a minimum and provides us with fun t-shirts for each swimmer. We encourage you to learn more about these two local businesses - they support us and we hope you will support them! If you are interested in learning more about becoming a sponsor, please contact us!
